National University of Singapore
The NUS course, 'Religions in the Contemporary World', develops a nuanced understanding of multi-facetted expressions of religiosity in the contemporary global context. It explores various socio-cultural, political, economic and technological forces and processes that impact religion in different societies.
The course looks to evaluate the frameworks used to study religion, and to understand the historical contexts of the changing role of religions in various societies and social processes, such as colonisation, modernisation and globalisation. This multi-disciplinary module emphasizes both the empirical and the theoretical issues that surface in studying religions.
